1. Where's the latest version of this FAQ?

- The latest version of this document is always available at:
 http://www.blue-pacific.com/products/flashprinter/docs/Faq.htm .

2. The printed Flash movie contains header and footer labels - how can I avoid this?
- Headers and footers are added by the application from where you are printing - usually applications provide a way to configure header and footer texts. Good places to search for are the application Preferences dialog or on the Page Setup dialog.

3. How can page margins be set?
- Page margins are defined by the printing application, they usually can be set on the Page Setup dialog. Other applications (for example Word and other Office applications) allow you to change margins dynamically on the application itself.

4. Some text on a printed Flash movie appears pixelated, even if I select Vectors in the Type setting - why?
- Since Flash Printer depends on what the application sends to it (as any other printer), this means that the application sent the text block as an image, instead of as normal text. Check if you have the used fonts installed on your system.
Although some applications simply substitute an unknown font for another, some other applications like Acrobat PDF Reader seem to print pixelated text blocks for fonts which are not installed or which lack font permissions.

5. The "printed" Flash movie zooms and scrolls too slow - even with Page Previews enabled - what can I do?
- This is due to a document with complex pages (large number of text blocks or shapes) leading to poor Flash player complexity. Try the following measures:

  • Set the Encoding Type to Bitmaps.
  • Choose a smaller Page Size, so that the document is printed in a larger number of pages, distributing the document to more pages - causing each page to be less complex.
  • Decrease the Resolution Quality setting.
  • Choose the 'Raw Pages' or 'Slide Show' Interfaces and a Fixed width HTML template (for example the 'Fixed Width 800 Pixels' template).
  • On Interfaces that include this option, set the Flash Quality to Medium or Low.

As a general rule, test the Flash movies with complex pages on your target machines and operating systems, to ensure a good user experience.

6. I'm getting an error printing to Flash Printer.
- Printing errors can be related with low free disk space, specially if printing with Encoding Type set to Bitmaps which usually consumes a lot of disk space during the printing process. If you get such an error check the amount of free disk space both on the drive where Flash Printer is installed and on your Windows installation drive.

7. Why are pages appearing last to first?
- Some applications (for example Word and other Office applications) include a 'Reverse Order' setting that can be turned off on the 'Preferences' or 'Options' dialog of such applications.

8. Why has the Flash Printer installation requested a reboot?
- A reboot might be needed if you are reinstalling Flash Printer and some of its DLL files are locked in memory. If you get such an error, please reboot and reinstall Flash Printer immediately after the reboot. Take care that Administration privileges are required to perform the installation.

9. Why am I getting error '1100032' during installation?
- This error will happen on systems using a software that comes bundled with HP printers, the HP Taskbar Icon, if you have this software running on your Taskbar, close it during Flash Printer installation, and launch it again later.

10. What are the differences between the registered and evaluation versions?
- The evaluation version adds a watermark to the generated Flash movies saying "Created with Flash Printer Evaluation", it also saves with the Protect from Import flag and doesn't include source code for the Interfaces.

11. Does Flash Printer run on Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4?
- The current version of Flash Printer runs only on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Unfortunately older Windows versions do not support the kind of processing that Flash Printer must perform on printed content.

12.  What is Blue*Pacific Software's policy regarding updates and patches?
- The latest evaluation version is always available for download from the usual location, identified with a build number ( like: "build 1.0.420"). To check if you have the latest version, please compare this build number with the one available on the About dialog of the Flash Printer window (also at the top left corner of the ReadMe.htm file).
Registered users receive automatic notifications each time a new updated version is released, and can freely download it at any time.
When an error is found and fixed we try to release an updated version as soon as possible (with accurate tests and full regression testing, of course), instead of releasing a base version and a set of patches (for example like the Windows service packs). Since the installation process is simple we believe this to be the best solution.
